The Bend Ski Club exists to foster the development and growth of adult skiing and racing.
The Bend Ski Club is an active social club with 85 skier members who meet for an entertaining evening at the Phoenix Inn in Downtown Bend on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month from October thru March and for our end of the season Party in April. We focus on recreational skiing and adult ski racing. Beginning in January our social committee hosts Ski Days every Sunday at Mt Bachelor and our Race Committee is the host of Friday Night City League racing at Hoodoo and many other events throughout the winter.

We got started through the efforts of Al Zempke, a Bend businessman and avid skier. Al saw the need to organize adult skiers to lobby as a group in relations with the management of Mt. Bachelor. At that time, City League racing was suffering from lack of interest by both skiers and the mountain's management and Master's race training was going the same route. Al also had a vision of a pro-style, dual ski competition that could serve as a state championship called the "Oregon Cup". Al retired from ski racing and the club, but left it in the good hands of Ryan Gage, Hans Eriksson, Larry Barker and Joanne Ray. That was in 1999.
In 2004 Ryan Gage, Hans Eriksson, Larry Barker, James Sutherland with Dave Kornish, and Walt Stone were the ski club board. In 2008 Jeff Perin, Greg Timm, Phillis Temple, and Larry Barker were elected to the Board of Directors. Along with advisors Merle Ross, Joe Bentley, Al Pierce and Dave Kornish, this group is focused on growth and social events for the club, and reviving recreational ski racing back to the slops of Central Oregon.
Al's goals have been achieved to a great degree. City League is alive and doing quite well as is Masters Training. City League is alive and well at HooDoo and Masters is going strong at Mt. Bachelor under the coaching of Greg Timm. Today we continue to keep watchful eye those early concerns while providing a venue for adult skiers to congregate, discuss common issues, help the community, help ourselves and have good times skiing together. As we go forward we want to do more to attract and provide a comfortable place for all adult snow enthusiasts and their families, not just racers. To that end we have formed the Recreational Ski Committee which will provide a way for club members to connect in order to ski together. Our mission statement is: “The Bend Ski Club exists to foster the development and growth of adult skiing and racing.”
Meetings are held monthly between October and May normally on the second (2nd) Wednesday of every month, but please check the BSC calendar for the latest meeting dates, times, and places.
