Ski Anthony Lakes Master Development Plan:
A
Success Story!
The management at Ski Anthony Lakes successfully completed the
resort planning process, navigated the National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA) process, and the USDA Forest Service carefully crafted a
Record of Decision on ski area expansion, which effectively avoided
all avenues of appeal.
Ski Anthony Lakes now has approval for the following projects:
- increasing the ski facility capacity from 600 to 1,200
persons-at-one-time
- construction of two chairlifts
- replacement
of the existing handle tow with a beginner chairlift
- relocation of
the handle tow
- construction of an on-mountain guest services hut
-
careful construction of 1.2 acres of additional ski/snowboard terrain
- renovation of the day lodge and expansion of the maintenance
building
- development of 2.4 acres of additional parking
-
construction of 2.5 km of additional nordic trails & 2.4 km of
snowshoe trails
The Strategy Behind the
Story:
Ski Anthony Lakes is a family-oriented ski area and management
knows it is important to provide a progression of lifts and trails
that supports the learn-to-turn process. Family-oriented ski areas
must provide ski/snowboard terrain that help guests develop skills and
gain confidence. An optimally designed facility provides a first-time
beginner with an enjoyable, introductory experience. It nurtures the
guest, helps build athleticism and sense of accomplishment, and helps
enhance a guest's skiing/snowboarding competence. Increased
proficiency, in turn, leads to a bigger mountain experience (as guests
are able to enjoy more of our mountain), higher levels of enjoyment,
and a higher likelihood of return visits to our ski area.
In addition to the improvements at the core of our resort, Ski
Anthony Lakes has approval for infrastructure upgrades that will help
Ski Anthony Lakes develop into a balanced recreational facility. One
such proposal is an on-mountain hut, which will allow our guests to
enjoy our spectacular mountain vistas (and help increase our food
service capacity). The safety and enjoyment of our guests are driving
forces behind all of our approved ski area rehabilitation and upgrade
projects.
Call-to-Action:
We have successfully navigated the Forest Service approvals process
and now we must raise capital. The new ownership team has invested
millions of dollars into the ski area and has asked the area's
managers to operate within our financial means before additional
investment can occur. Visit our website to learn more about Ski
Anthony Lakes. Encourage your ski club to come visit us this winter.

2008-2009 season.
