Stevens Pass submitted its new MDP Proposal to the U.S. Forest
Service in September, 2007. This long-anticipated document gives a
conceptual blueprint for improvements at the resort, ranging from
new lifts and terrain, to on mountain food facilities, parking and
transportation changes, as well as summer operations. It includes
the resort’s development goals, objectives and overall philosophy.
The Proposal calls for a different approach than simply resolving
current capacity shortfalls on weekends and holidays at
Stevens—congested terrain, crowded food facilities and filled
parking areas. The MDP also proposes initiatives to add variety and
interest to the overall experience, such as advanced and
intermediate gladed terrain (tree skiing), on-mountain food
facilities, and summertime downhill mountain biking. These
possibilities have our staff excited about what it will mean for
guests and employees alike. Even though Stevens Pass is envisioned
as modest in size, the MDP describes a recreation experience of
quality, occurring in a place valued for its balance between
human-designed changes and its National Forest setting.
The Forest Service has accepted the proposal and has found it
complies with the NW forest Plan. The public
scoping is complete and the next phase of environmental analysis has
started. We invite you to become familiar with
the proposal. For an electronic version of the MDP, including maps
