Nestled in the Canadian Rockies is Banff’s only resort with 100% natural snow and a ski season that lasts from November through May. A ski area that boasts of eight high speed quad lifts, an eight passenger Gondola and an area where you can ski in two Provinces (Alberta and BC).

A single log cabin, built by the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 1928, gave birth to this area where skiers would arrive on horseback and ascend on “skins” to get to the main skiing area. By 1934, a cabin was leased and the first paying guests arrived. Most stayed one week due to the one-day travel time it took by Model- T to reach their destination. In 1938 the first Swiss ski guides were hired and in 1941 the first rope tow was installed. During the next six decades lifts, trails, a day lodge and an 84-room lodge was added to accommodate the many visitors.

It has grown up as one of the most picturesque scenic areas, with three mountains, 3,168 skiable/boardable acres, and 107 runs to serve skiers from all over the world. One of the most spectacular runs, a true testament to the skill of the skier, was reopened in 1998. The only snow riders allowed on the Delirium Dive, a double black diamond run, must be equipped with a backpack containing a rope, whistle, shovel, locator beacon and a lot of courage. This area is patrolled daily to make sure those descending are following the rules.

Experienced Ski Guides are available to take you on a free 90- minute get-acquainted mountain tour that will invigorate your senses. With seven restaurants to appease your taste buds and three “watering” holes to satisfy your thirst, this ski area can accommodate up to 7,000 skiers a day.

So, have you guessed where we are? Skiing/boarding the slopes of Sunshine Village, Banff, Alberta, Canada. Sunshine Village is located minutes from the town of Banff, and 90 minutes from Calgary, and can be reached by shuttle bus or major car rentals. A typical ski week (from Sunday to Thursday) consists of five nights lodging, five day lifts with ski/board lessons for all abilities, nightly entertainment, ski area tour and memories for a lifetime. There are many different types of ski/board package vacations available.
